On Saturday 14th September, Keely Dunn was pitch-side at Keynsham Hockey Club for an umpire development day.

Giving players and teams the chance to play their best game that day!

Keely is the founder of FHumpires which provides support and mentorship to umpires all over the world, whether newbies umpiring in their first season, through club umpires with 20 years of experience, to international FIH umpires.

Keynsham had three pre-season matches that day during which 6 of Keynsham’s umpires were given the opportunity to be coached after their matches. Other umpires participated in a live “watch party” at the side of the pitch during the matches when they discussed aspects of umpiring.

Keely has a huge amount of experience supporting umpire development around the world, both in person at matches, but also virtually via watch parties on the FHumpires Discord server. She is in the UK for 3 months this autumn as part of her “work abroad year” during which time she is participating in a range of umpire development activities around the country. Keynsham Hockey Club was privileged to be the first club in the country to welcome her.

Keynsham Hockey Club sees the provision of development opportunities to its members as essential to its own progression. Last season, the club hosted two goal keeping camps for over 30 goal keepers from across the region in association with Pinpoint Coaching, and hosted an umpiring seminar by Keely Dunn. A further goal keeping camp in being arranged for later in 2024.

Keely is an ex-international umpire including twice going to the Junior World Cup and umpiring Olympic Qualifiers. She also spent six seasons umpiring in England’s National League, working her way up to the Women’s Premier Panel and the Men’s B Panel as well as umpiring over 80 of British University league matches and the women’s BUCS final twice.

Keely now contributes to the umpiring community through her weekly WhatUpWednesday live shows on YouTube, clinics, umpire coaching and mentorship. She has Umpire Managed two editions of the EHCO Trophy in the Netherlands and has recently returned from doing the same for the National Hockey Masters in New Zealand.

On the following Monday, Keely was invited to return to umpire a game with KHC member and umpire Richard May between Wellsway School's U18 girls' team and an Argentinian team from Colegio Palermo Chico. The two teams had an excellent game and the Argentinians won 5-4 in the end.
